APUSH 2020 - What Style of Essay Should You Use?

APUSH 2020 - What Style of Essay Should You Use?The Association of Professional Journalists has presented some of its essay samples for the APUSH 2020 conference. Each of the APUSH panelists is required to read at least one of these samples, and so I have been hard at work trying to sort through the remaining samples and compile a ranking of my own.My first concern was the difficulty of selecting between the two styles: Editorial and Point Content. Most of the sample essays I've looked at are essay samples from points-based panels, which requires the writer to point to an object, issue, or detail. Point content can have that same element but generally requires more attention to detail, so it seems like the right format for a writing sample.Fortunately, I found that Point Content is by far the most demanding style of essay, requiring the writer to plot a sequence of events and relate the outcomes to their context. Not only does it require more emotional involvement, but also more inve stigation of the facts. And it really takes a writer to create a story on a new level. That leads me to my next concern: the difficulty of developing an emotional response to the writer's personal experience. Though APUSH might seem to be a decidedly academic event, the authors take great pains to write about real world situations and people. The panels often begin with personal stories by the authors themselves and the subsequent panelists, but the anecdotes are far from realistic and the 'style' of these stories detracts from the piece. But on the other hand, if you're just looking for a good sense of what life is like in the world today, Point Content is really the way to go.It's also worth noting that some of the panels seem to suggest that there is no such thing as a critical assessment of society. It's hard to see how anyone who does read any real journalism could find the exercise to be a challenge, but the writers seem to feel that readers should simply accept their word for i t, and all of their point-content samples seem to agree.Yet, one or two Point Content samples do offer some real insights into the way most people live and deal with each day. And that says something about the issues the United States faces today. My final concern is that even though I found the format to be more difficult, I did find some panels more challenging than others. It seems that some of the Point Content panels feature less experienced writers who have published only a few pieces and had to re-invent themselves in a short amount of time.
